Who is it for?
The Animal, Horticulture and Life course is aimed at those students who require additional support (this could be in a range of ways), for example with social skills, building confidence and independence, developing study skills and insights into the Animal and Horticulture industry, before moving on to the next step in their journey. Students will gain specific and transferable work skills whilst exploring careers in the land-based industry and offers the opportunity to experience working with animals in a horticulture environment. Students will also undertake work experience in real working animal care and horticulture environments.
What is covered?
Explore the land-based industry and gain experience working with animals and in the horticulture environment. Working environments include working on a commercial farm, the extensive grounds, and our on-site animal care area. Students will be assessed on their progress throughout the year and will build an evidence portfolio. Includes sessions in English and Maths, Enrichment, Tutorials, Independent Living Skills and supported study. All of our programmes are underpinned with the opportunity to develop life skills, communication development and safety in the community. Much of the curriculum will be working towards individual targets and EHCP outcomes if applicable.

No formal qualification required.
You will be assessed on your progress throughout the year and build a portfolio of evidence. The work is validated by an external verifier from RARPA. Functional skills will involve tests at the appropriate level.
Trips, visits and guest speakers are an essential part of your course and they develop your knowledge and allow you to add to the skills you are learning at College. Trips and visits may come at an additional cost.
